Our Roots

CR Wheel Works is the present evolution of the infamous Café Roubaix.

CR Wheel Works & Café Roubaix started as a small town bicycle repair business running out of a garage. The family and business moved to Cochrane, Alberta, in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, after owner, Dan Richter, retired from the Canadian Forces with over twenty years of service. Dan had been building custom bicycle wheels but wanted to open a store front in which high quality bicycles and parts would be offered in a friendly setting. The name Café Roubaix was chosen in honour of the much beloved monument of professional bicycle racing: Paris-Roubaix.

We have since moved from our original second floor location on the historic main street of Cochrane, Alberta; we still provide that boutique professional atmosphere, where the client, whether wide-eyed beginner or demanding competitive racer, is catered to as they were a veteran of the pro peloton.

We want every client of CR Wheel Works to experience the same level of service and attention that every cycling professional demands from team mechanics, coaches, and equipment providers. From the high quality components that CR Wheel Works offers, each wheel set is specifically built to each client's needs and demands. While we offer complete wheel sets in our stable, we can cater to any rider's unique requirements, to complement the client's riding style, goals, and abilities.
